Who is behind it?

Thomas Müller has over 20 years of experience working with hearing technology and particularly enjoys challenges and opportunities that leverage his expertise in the field.

Thomas originally started out in Switzerland as a Precision Engineer, and further qualifications in Electronics and Micro-electronics provided him with an opportunity to join a leading Swiss hearing aid manufacturer where he could focus on specialist hearing aid repairs and manufacturing.

After extensively travelling around the world, Thomas chose to settle in New Zealand in 1989 and joined a major audiology retail clinic, extending his knowledge of all brands and makes of hearing aid technology. While in this role, Thomas refined his knowledge of the comparative quality of hearing aid technology through visiting various manufacturers in the USA and Europe.

In recognition of his significant experience in hearing technology, Thomas was invited in 1994 to join a leading hearing aid manufacturer, where he established a world-class production and service support centre for nationwide distribution with significant growth for the company. His involvement and interest in supplying musician hearing protection to local artists such as Anika Moa and Elemeno P started then.

Thomas established his own audiology practice in November 2004.

Music has always been a significant interest to Thomas, from his vinyl record collection, playing the guitar to attending many concerts over the years. However, he had always been aware of the excess decibel levels of music at these live performances and has suffered the subsequent temporary threshold shifts in his hearing lasting from several hours to over a day.  “You know that your hearing is down because of the loud music, everything sounds muffled, it feels like cotton wool in your ears and then it comes back to normal again…..”.

As a result of his extensive involvement and experience in the hearing technology area, Thomas was well aware of the negative long-term effects of this leisure activity on his hearing, as the decibel levels were highly unlikely to be reduced in concerts or night clubs. Therefore, using custom-moulded ER musician hearing protection in order to ensure a safe but still stimulating listening experience has become imperative for him when attending concerts or visiting night clubs. “I do encourage everyone to use good quality ER musician ear plugs if they frequently visit concerts or night clubs to avoid premature hearing damage – once your hearing is gone, it is forever gone – so 'DON’T LOSE THE MUSIC'".
